Issue - Computer Jumps Around

GasLady:
John~,
I have NOT been highlighting!  I was giving the command prior to starting the text I wanted in a different color, then typing, and it didn't work.  I am trying your suggestion now.  I tried to make your name in red, but I can't tell if it worked or not yet, because it didn't turn red in my reply window that I'm typing in now, but I will hit the post button and see if I've found color.  Ditto for my attempt at changing fonts.  I'm so sorry you're having to give me keyboard 101!

I absolutely, positively loathe IE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just had a detailed post ready to submit and IE ate it!  :taz:  IE doesn't always allow for retrieval of info via utilization of the 'back' key, it times out and I hate both those flaws in IE.

:grrr:

I'll have to recompose.  Here goes...

Yay, John for finding the fix and for upgrading the SMF software!  :cheer:  :cheer:  Wherez that wet slobbery smooch emoticon?  You deserve one for both the fix and the upgrade!  I reckon this one will have to do.   :kiss2: :kiss2:  Thank you so much!

I can't believe y'all thought your posts were restricted.  That's too funny that you would think only my posts could be long of lung...or wait, maybe it isn't funny a'tall.  Maybe y'all are being mean to me! :weep:

Looks like you were able to get the text color to change, GasLady, which tells me you should be able to get the font also to change.  One thing to note about changing the font - if a selected font is not supported by someone's OS, the default font will be displayed without indication that another font was attempted -- if your reason for changing the font is for a particular impact, the impact may be lost on some users if their OS doesn't support your font choice.  What you do is select the font change option and change the existing font to the one of your choice - no font selections are listed, if you want to change the font you have to manually type the font name, i.e., change Verdana to Times Roman.

You don't have to highlight (select) the text on which you wish you utilize any of the posting options, but you certainly can.  What you do have to do is make sure the text to which you wish the option to apply, falls between the opening ([]) and closing ([/]) brackets.

Next thing - why do you use IE?  I have never liked IE and only use it if a site absolutely requires it of me.

Oh, don't get her going....

Branch~
I use IE because that's all I know.  I've never seen FireFox (have heard of it).  So my ignorance is why I use it.

As for our posts being restricted in size, I just figured rank has it's privilege.  Now that we've been given the keys to the kingdom, we might get more verbose on ya'   :devil:  ... or not     :;

Yes, the color thing worked for me.  I was using my Word mentality, which obviously doesn't apply here.  This is the only place I have ever posted to a blog-like thing (or whatever this is called ... guess this is a bulletin board ???).  Obviously I'm a novice at this.  Anyhow, thanks for your help.  I remain computer deficient!!

Branch:
You're most welcome.  I'm glad both you and LindaLucy chimed in with Marie, otherwise that IE reply box issue would have continued to be a bugger for many people.  Y'all did a good thing! :tu:

Too funny about the keys to the kingdom - be good keepers of the keys, k?

Yes, this is a bulletin board or discussion board - interchangeable terms.  And I feel your are right to apply your Word knowledge, doing so makes most things rather intuitive, I think. Things work the same way, selecting the text on which you want to use editorial features or selecting the feature and then entering the text.  Difference is the html coding shows up in the text box here and in Word, it's hidden from view - concept is pretty much the same.

John, thanks for testing the quote feature.  As long as the size is not smaller, a colored quote box works just as well as a white box.  Sneaky way you got the test done!
