Continuing our inspiration and motivation resource corner...

Today some determination quotes:

"Determine that the thing can and shall be done, and then we shall find the way."

~Abraham Lincoln~

"Other people and things can stop you temporarily. You're the only one who can do it permanently."

~Zig Ziglar~

"When I thought I couldn't go on, I forced myself to keep going. My success is based on persistence, not luck."

~Estee Lauder~

"The men who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than those who try to do nothing and succeed."

~Lloyd Jones~

"No one can go back and make a brand new start. Anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending."

~Unknown~

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

~Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.~

"Even the most daring and accomplished people have undergone tremendous difficulty. In fact, the more successful they became, the more they attributed their success to the lessons learned during their most difficult times. Adversity is our teacher. When we view adversity as a guide towards greater inner growth, we will then learn to accept the wisdom our soul came into this life to learn."

~Barbara Rose~

"The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for."

~Maureen Dowd~

Thank you, Branch.  As usual, your posts are so timely for me.

I was browsing through GJ and came across "What Is Someone Happened Along?" that you wrote a few years back.  It was one of the most profound things I've read in a long time.  What you wrote is exactly how I felt when I met my second husband.  You understand about personal character traits being similar, not too many people get it.  Only one person got it at the time.  You put the feelings of love, attraction, guilt, sense of betrayal, doubts, fears, and all other emotions out there to help people understand what it is to find someone after you have found your someone who you thought would be with you the rest of your life.  You expressed it to eloquently, and I thank you so much. :kiss2:

Was looking at inspirational sayings but unfortunately they were written on papers and I don't know who to quote or attribute them too

Thought I would share anyway

If Love could have saved you , you would have lived forever

Special people touch our lives in everything they do and leave us changed long after they are gone. The gifts they give us can become a part of who we are . A legacy of beauty that lives on.

Longing is the price we pay for having loved. Had we not known joy we would not miss it's passing.

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened...That one came from Dr.Seuss

I know that although my grief is my own, I am not alone and others support me and comfort me on my journey.

When Steve's things from work were sent to me, I found a scrap of paper with the following words written by Steve:

"Everything is capable with the greatest ease of being changed to anything; and nothing is, but THINKING makes it so."
Charles Dickens, "A Christmas Tree", from Household Words, 1850

I have this scrap of paper on my refrigerator as a last gift from Steve -

Mary Oliver is my favorite poet. Her poem "Heavy" really speaks to my heart.
http://blogs.nyu.edu/blogs/msw317/gettingwiser/2009/02/heavy_by_mary_oliver.html

Also, Maya Angelou wrote an incredible poem called "When Great Trees Fall." I had it read at Daniel's funeral. I weep every time I read it. I love trees almost as much as I love Daniel. (He was a bit peeved that I took more pics of trees than of him when we were on our honeymoon.) So having the two of them together in such an eloquent poem is a gift.  http://peonymoon.wordpress.com/2009/01/04/maya-angelouswhen-great-trees-fall/

Enjoy.

Big gulp, wide eyed ending, at least for me.

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.

THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Thank you, Branch, what a powerful poem.  There's a lot of food for thought in those words.  I will print this one to keep it handy.
