SoSad,
I know what you mean. I know. Daniel and I walked just about every day in our neighborhood, and the neighbors commented about how we always held hands. What safety and security I found there!
One of my biggest regrets is that I didn't have an impression made of one of his fingers at the funeral home. They offered to do it for Mother. You can have
a pendant created.
Since I never got around to getting the necklace with Mother's fingerprint, I forgot to ask when I was making funeral arrangements for Daniel. I'd give anything to see the whirls of his fingertip, but I'd probably rub it so much that it would wear away.

What a beautiful idea, Peggy. I haven't heard of taking fingerprints as a memento.
One segment of my bereavement group was to bring in a memento of our spouses. I brought in photos and related some details of our life together as the photos were passed around. When the photo was returned to me, I hadn't finished talking and afterwards I realized that all the while, I had been rubbing my husband's hand in one photo. Luckily I had encased the photos in plastic, otherwise I probably would have rubbed a hole right through that particular photo.

I read a quote today that really struck home for me. The path I take in life will be SOOOO very different depending on which of these I follow. I think following my heart when it is whole and happy and filled with love and joy is the way to go but right now I think hope is the one to follow....

I must be hooked on "hopeful" messages right now....
Another favourite:
" Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase." Martin Luther King
And let's not forget the quote from Winnie the Pooh:
"If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart, I'll always be with you.

Served, there is nothing wrong with hope.
I seem to like Winnie the Pooh's quote, probably because of the words at the end.

This may be familiar to you, but I think it illustrates how we at Grief's Journey help each other along the way:

Peggy, thank you for the Geese video. I love these 'sermonettes'. I didn't know all those facts about the geese, and in a way, we here at GJ are geese, flying in formation, each one of us lifting another figuratively, when needed. So fitting a description!

Peggy, geese should be our mascots. I have never seen this video but I heard the content many times ..My Rick would take every opportunity to point out the wonderful things we could learn from other living beings on this planet. I heard about geese as leaders and great team players MANY MANY TIMES.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I hope everyone has a good day...honk honk

How cool that you found the geese story and that you connected it to widowhood! That just amazes me. Here's what I wrote about it a couple months after creating GJ -

I may have missed that post, Branch, or have forgotten about it. Pardon my widder brain. Thank you for posting it again.
Served, I like the idea of the goose being our mascot. We will need a name for our mascot. I think Mother Goose and Lucy Goosey and Silly Goose aren't appropriate. Can anyone think of a name for our new mascot? Peggy, can you do something similar to the tree to represent our goose?

Woke up this morning feeling very anxious about the day. I'm going to the CPA to close out the business and nonprofit. I'm afraid I may not have everything I need to do what needs to be done by Dec. 31. As I was lying in bed, I told myself to calm down. If I can't close things out in time, I'll just file another tax return for 2012. It's not the worst thing that could happen. I was doing my relaxation breathing when...
I heard the sound of geese in the distance. They honked for a long time, then flew overhead. We've lived here for 3-1/2 years, and I've only heard geese one other time. And certainly not in late December.
So thank you, everyone, for the honks. It's nice to know you're there. I'll finish my coffee, put on my big girl panties, and get on with the day.
