(1/1)
Branch:
Welcome to Grief's Journey. We're sorry you have the need for grief support, but we are glad you found us and are even more glad you decided to join our community.
Those of you who are new to GJ may also be new to the internet bulletin board experience. We'd like to give you a few tibits of information as to the operation of a bulletin board (also known as a discussion board), hoping to make your experience here more comfortable. If you find a question or concern you have is not addressed here, please post your question on this thread or begin a new question thread (definition to follow in text below) in this forum.
If you are quite familiar with internet bulletin boards, but not familiar with SMF software, please do not hesitate to raise your question if it is not covered in the text below.
What you are presently reading is referred to as a thread or topic, more commonly, a thread. This thread is entitled, "How This Bulletin Board Operates and SMF Software Highlights." The thread consists of posts, what you are reading now is called the starter post. All responses or replies to the starter post are called reply posts.
At Grief's Journey, we would appreciate your restricting thread sizes to a maximum of 500 posts.
In each post there is a Report to moderator link in the lower right hand corner. The purpose of this feature is to report to the board administration, posts that concern or alarm you. We want you to use the feature if you feel it is warranted, however we hope you never find cause to use this feature. In board participation, we ask everyone to be thoughtful in both the kind and comtemplative sense of the word.
In the upper left hand corner of the board index you will see Show unread posts since last visit and Show new replies to your posts. Clicking on 'unread posts' will give you a list of posts, by thread title, since your last visit to the board. A nice feature to this software is that it remembers where you last visited a thread and when go back to the thread through this feature, it will take you to that exact spot so that you can read forward. 'Show replies' will take you to a list of threads which have received replies since your last post on the thread.
At the bottom of the screen, you will find and may click on Latest Post: "thread name will appear here." which takes you to the most recent post on the board, and "View the 10 most recent posts on the forum" which enables you to see the 10 most recent posts.
Navigating the Board and Forum Indices
Grief's Journey in its entirety is known as a bulletin board. The bulletin board has an index. Viewing the bulletin board index, you will see that the bulletin board is broken down into sections, i.e., Frequently Asked Questions, Newcomers, Discussions, Scheduled Discussions, and so on. The sections are broken down into forums. Each forum has its own index. All forums work the same. The forum titles are listed below the section titles. When you click on the the forum title from the board index, all the threads within that forum will be listed. As we grow, there will be mutiple pages for some of the forums' indices.
To go to the last post of a forum, click re: (thread title) from the board index (right side of your screen) in the forum you wish to visit. Or, once you've entered a specific forum, you can choose to either 1) click on the forum title underneath the subject column or 2) you can click on the arrowed notepad icon on the far right of your screen. Choosing option 1 will take you to the starter post of the thread. Choosing option 2 will take you to the last reply post of the thread. Remember to make sure the Show most recent posts at the top is unchecked in your user profile if you want the last post to show at the bottom of your screen or make sure it is checked if you want the last post to show at the top of your screen.

I'm not sure I understand your concern GBV. If you're concerned that something you sent to Martyswife, either through email or PM, is public rather than private, no, there is nothing from you to Martyswife visible to members or guests. Any email or PM sent by one member to another is private.
If that is not what you meant and you'd like to privately discuss your concern with me, you are welcome to email (Branch@griefsjourney.com) or PM me.
